Not a book for the general reader. Actually a book which will probably have its largest distribution as a reference book, a classroom library book, or a text book. It is a comprehensive survey of Russian history, specifically in its political and diplomatic and economic aspects, rather than a history of the men and women who ruled her, and the social forces that culminated in the revolution. The field is too vast to permit of concentration on the dramatic and colorful events that make Russian history distinctive and exciting. But the facts are there, in broad outline, with very cursory comment.
