THE NEW GUIDE TO HAPPY RETIREMENT

Yet another guide to the Golden Years--enormous, a surface slick of facts, cheerios, and figures. Just about every subject is netted in: finances, domestic relations, real estate, hobbies and jobs, wills (!), mental and physical health, travels, services and agencies for the aged, and a large section devoted to pleasant ""retirement"" localities. Although it is difficult to fault the advice (ex., don't take on a hobby just for the Sake of taking on a hobby), this is generally superficial skimming. For example, the huge section dealing with retirement ""areas"" is a compendium of sunny Chamber of Commerce arias: no hard, realistic look at exactly what sort of house one would find for the minimum price; what sort of people live where (transients? Easterns or Westerners? Income group? Political orientation? Cultural interest?); what the weather offers season by season, etc. Old folks have a way of refusing to be considered ""special cases"" but this may prove to be a diverting ""idea"" book for some. Random hints for the harvest years.
