MUSIC AND WORSHIP IN THE CHURCH

This is a wonderful book about Church music, because it is written especially for the people in the Church who are responsible for getting a good musical program operating in creative relationship to the whole Gospel presentation. Too many books about Church music are written by musicians for musicians and are completely irrelevant. Lovelace and Rice have avoided this pitfall. Their wide experience with many denominations and their present function as teachers of sacred music have given them the opportunity to combine the practical and the theoretical. Hence they are interested in how music committees work; how to recruit choir members; how to relate the musical program with the basic presentation of the Gospel. Thus the book becomes more than a choir- master's handy manual. The average person will bless the day he bought it. The Sunday School Superintendent may get a new vision of music in the life of the Parish. Even the soloist may come to realize his proper place in offering his talent to the Lord. This book will help everyone concerned with worship.
