PISTOLS FOR TWO by Georgette Heyer

PISTOLS FOR TWO

By

Publisher: Dutton

As the nonpareil of contemporary scribes for the ton, Miss Heyer has assembled some short bits in the vein of her Regency romances, and concentration seems to improve the flavor. Here is a splendid collection of bloods and cakes - Corinthians, Whips and Pinks of the ton imposing in breeches with nary a wrinkle or crease, polished in Hessian , and evidencing varying degrees of mastery of the neckcloth, and a predisposition toward the tousled ringlet and blazing eye. Although in one tale a little governess and a clerk are involved in a gothic thriller, and in another two young hotheads are hoosing weapons, most of the tales have to do with the unexpected engagement of affections. Many mad flights in curricles, tilburys and chaises toward Gretna Green (a marital border of no return), dressing downs by uncles and older brothers, and hot blood racing all about. Escape into an improbable past - silly but fun.
