The Anglican Bishop of Chester gave the substance of these chapters as the McMath lectures at St. John's Church, Detroit. Without sacrificing exactness of scholarship they are popular in style, and are therefore highly commended to lay readers who want a reliable account of the origin, growth, and future prospects of the Episcopal Church. The tolerance of mind and spirit typical of the Anglican temper is here fully exemplified by Bishop Ellison, and members of that communion will find this book an excellent history of its achievement and hopes. It would be a valuable handbook for confirmation classes.
