The definitions of energy and the discussion of its conversion from the sun, coal, atoms, etc., presupposes a grasp of chemistry and the principles of electricity. The value of the book lies in its international roundup of information on the major research programs being carried on to discover and harness new forms of fuel power. The book is an English import and its short section describing the necessary background and training for careers in this engineering specialty is valueless in this country; the list of suggested reading is nearly so.
