WEEKEND GAMBLER'S HANDBOOK

Publisher: Random House

The presumption is that you're going to spend the weekend in some casino, not with the boys next door, since the coverage here is on casino games rather than that friendly game of cards. Major Riddle, who started to gamble at ten with his school milk pennies, is both a professional gambler and a very successful businessman and is president of the Dunes Hotel in Las Vegas. Believing that everything in one way or another is a gamble, but that you should never make a let you can't afford to lose, he goes into the causality of losing and winning still there's no legitimate way to beat the horses), the question of luck and superstition, systems (""there is no system which can turn a minus expectation into a plus"") and the individual games: blackjack; craps, roulette (you can win-modestly- at this one). Entertaining guidance which will help you to educate your guesses and calculate your risks, even though it won't altogether fortify you for the impassivity of the dealer and the asperity of the little woman- if you get home.
