Jesse Chisholm, famous half-Indian trail blazer, figures prominently in this trader and Indian story of the old West. When Chisholm and his white trading band come to the Comanche tepee village in 1839, Nahvood Parpe was seized with strange emotions as he saw for the first time since he had been made a captive, a number of white-skinned people like himself. Taking an interest in the boy, Jesse bargains him away from his master- an old medicine man- and the boy accompanies the traders through deserts, forests and plains. Shunned at first by some of the other traders because of his Indian ways, he proves the worth of his Indian trading in the wilds, becomes a valued member of the party as well as a likeable companion. A well-spun story with plenty of excitement supplied by wilderness exploits, Indian raids and confabs, and a refreshing backward glance at this exciting period in our history.
