It is an interesting, if not wholly new, examination of the war-Russian strength and the German weakness, written by a European student and interpreter. He shows how Hitler was impelled by the Junker generals to make the 1939 pact with the country he had wanted to attack; how Hess was sent to England by Hitler to buy off Britain so as to give Hitler a free hand in Russia, and how this plan miscarried; how Hitler went through with his plans against Russia despite the Junkers; how Hitler underestimated Russia's strength and the Russian spirit. Analysis of Russian strategy and leadership. And finally, discussion of the second front, which he believes is essential to victory. Sometimes his optimism seems wishful thinking -- let's hope he is right. Good, but not outstanding.
