In scholarly terms, this clears Vespucci's name of the stigma of social thief-as the man who stole Columbus' fire by publicizing the New World. Painstakingly, Arciniegas describes the whole of Amerigo's life and the elements that made him the man he was. Much of the material is naturally fascinating and as it recreates an era through a man, the reasons for the naming of America become natural too.
