Jolly whimsy with a hey and a ho and plenty of exclamation points; Jolly old Papa Pottleby continues to pace adventures of the excitable family in his own simple- minded fashion, riding his purple bus, thrilled with his election to the fire-department, and saddened by the problems of the children. This time there is the wooden carousel horse who must be kept happy, which in turn arouses the jealousy of Papa's ""sweet little mare"". There is a birthday party, a picnic, a fishing trip and adventures in which the Mayor, the Teacher, ick, the junk man, and all the Pottlebys encounter a series of ridiculous problems which are treated solemnly and earnestly by all concerned. There is a pleasantly repetitive text here and the situations are amusing, but just how much coyness the average child of today can take is the question.
