This particular slice of American history is taken from the early colonization of Virginia, in a conventional as well as traditional story of the loss of land and its rightful reclamation. Young Andrew Foster returns to the environs of James Towne after seven years in England. When his parents' land is seized by the tyrannical governor Sir William Berkeley in the attempt to quell colonial self rule, Andrew is made bond servant to some friendly new settlers, the Constants. For three years he works with them to establish the farm and to fight with other freedom loving colonials until Sir William is finally recalled and a council of Burgesses is won.
