Description of the Avery Coonley School at Downers Grove, Illinois, and how it is attempting to prepare students to meet problems and conditions in the world, by planning a course of study to arouse interest by combining theory and practice in all branches of work. Starting with the youngest they explore everyday things they know through personal experience. In the higher groups they link science, music, and the arts to the year's projects, which go step by step from primitive life to advancing civilization. Cooperation by the parents makes the school a vital force in the community. Of special interest to educators -- wide awake P T A groups, etc. No mention of treatment of problem children or disciplinary measures, but concentration on the school's program.
