PETER SNOW, SURGEON by Gertrude Robinson

PETER SNOW, SURGEON

By

Publisher: Dutton

Arriving in the newly settled New England Colonies, a sixteen-year-old lad faces hardship and danger unflinchingly. He is captured by Indians, sold to the French in Canada, and eventually struggles back to Boston where he attends the recently founded Harvard College. Finally he achieves his dream of apprenticeship to a surgeon, thus launching on the same career his father had followed with distinction in England. The book is good solid reading, and notable, above most of its kind, for a ring of authenticity, a hearty excitement, and a fine, generous understanding of people -- be they Cavaliers, Puritans, Indians or French Monks.
