THE AMAZING FREDERIC

The history of Frederic II, King of Sicily and ""Emperor of the Romans"", a scholarly piece of research, and an important reference book for public and college libraries. Here was a man who lived before his time. A mathematician, an astronomer, an ornithologist, an organizer of amazing vision and imagination, a poet and patron of letters -- he is a vivid, dramatic figure. His life was full of color and adventure; his struggles with the pope, his efforts to unite the Holy Roman Empire without too close allegiance to the papal throne, all affords material for a ready pen. As here presented, however, it is a book for the historical student rather than the general reader, a bit pedantic, and unduly biased in analysis of the man himself.
