KIRKUS REVIEW

Ashel Backun, a Honyocker, one of the homesteaders abused by-and abusing- the entrenched cattlemen, young, peacoloving and hardworking to support his worthless family, hires out to rancher Vaughan and wins his liking and respect. But ill feeling breaks out into open feuding when Cade, one of Vaughan's men, harries Ashel, hunts down his brothers, and reveals the viciousness of his intentions.... If less exciting, also less synthetic, there's a sturdy sobriety to Ashel and his story. Good.
