The author begins by giving some clear definitions of terms (e.g. parts of the saddle, the bit, bridle and riding habit). She then guides the young rider through each step from mounting the steed to after-the-ride care. The illustrations of a rigid, almost unmoving equestrienne will not give the student any new insights into carrying out the verbal advice presented. Elementary, simplified instructions-- for those fresh-to-the-saddle only.
