KIRKUS REVIEW

The increasing interest in the literary output of the Scandinavian countries will make this book an important reference volume for public libraries, schools and colleges. The author is the leading authority on Scandinavian literature, and he has secured others as co-authors, to contribute chapters on American Scandinavian writers, -- Norwegian, Swedish, Danish and Icelandic. The material is biographical and critical, and of value chiefly for reference rather than consecutive reading. The tremendous amount of material covered precludes exhaustive commentary on any specific periods or authors, but the whole range of Scandinavian literature is covered. The bibliography will be invaluable for students. The book is carefully indexed.
