THE TREASURE OF NAPLES by Giuseppe Marotta

THE TREASURE OF NAPLES

By

Publisher: Dutton

A native Neapolitan records, with a Latin candor of emotion, places and people from his earlier years- and the treasure of Naples- its ""remote, hereditary, obstinate and intelligent endurance"". Here are vignettes- some in memoriam- of his mother, of his father who had died young, of the hunchbacked organgrinder and his implacable bad luck, of the merchant Don Rosario, of the eccentric shoemaker and his miracles, of the count who played slapjack daily with the porter's son, etc. etc. And there is the alley where they lived, the shrine of Montevergine, the nativity display at Christmas, etc. Personal in its interest and affection, one questions whether it will carry on this side.
