AMERICAN GARDEN FLOWERS

Illustrated by Rudolf Freund, this forms a notable addition to the list of dollar nature books published by Random. The pictures are lovely and the end-papers most informative. There is an introduction by Clyde Fisher of the American Museum of Natural History, following by a chapter telling about the cycle of life, where and how flowers live, pollination, seed distribution, flower parts and their names. The rest of the book is devoted to herbaceous flowers, shrubs and vines.
