CALIFORNIA CAMEL ADVENTURE

A story of Los Angeles in the l850's takes young Jonathan wright through a series of adventures involving the short-lived U.S. Camel Corps and his own family's welfare, but the narrative is unfortunately trite and sticky. Faced with the problem of waterless land, the Wrights may be forced to move back to Ohio. Then one day a camel from Fort Tejon breaks away and gives birth to a foal on the Wright's land. Black Sultan is the foal's name and as Jonathan is allowed to keep and raise him, he proves his Worth by stumbling on a patch of land one day that covers the needed water supply.
