WHISTLE FOR CINDY by Gladys Rourke Blackwood

WHISTLE FOR CINDY

By

Publisher: Whitman

Here's a new angle for a little girl story but its sugary self centeredness is rather repelling. Cynthia, who owns a kitten and a pony, tells her father, who is an inventor, that she wants something just for her, something that will love her. After some weeks of being good and helping her mother, there is forthcoming a puppy (cocker spaniel) named Cindy. And when Cindy is obstreperous and doesn't always come when called, Father's invention is a high pitched dog whistle to make Cindy really Cynthia's very own. The author's drawings, smooth but of slightly scrawny and very winsome beings, are as entirely sentimental as the story.
