ESPECIALLY FATHER by Gladys Taber

ESPECIALLY FATHER

By

Publisher: Macrae-Smith

Here is a life with Father that makes Clarence Day's pale into insignificance- so stormy and exhausting it must have been. Mother had her moments, as when she won out on the question of the missionary fund. But usually Father managed to have his own way, even if he fell short of his objective. He fought an unending battle with the overseer of the public park adjoining their summer cottage property on Lake Michigan -- he fought by fair means and foul (wouldn't you call garbage foul?). He was merciless in expecting others to share his enthusiasms and to match his energies. And yet through it all, something of his dominant magnetism comes through....Those of us who know Gladys Taber of Stillmeadow could wish for more perceptive picturing of a child growing to maturity under the clash of Father's cymbals...For the market that can absorb more and yet more family reminiscences. More fun to read than to experience!
