MANY A GREEN ISLE

Reflections of a year spent in the Caribbean, small islands and large as background for a dream island all his own. Not strictly a travel book, for here is no attempt to present the islands individually, but rather a cross sectioning of their character and personality, of the customs and people and characteristics. One gets the psychology of the islands rather than the geography or the history. To enjoy this book as it should be enjoyed, one should have some personal experience and background; I found that five weeks in and out among the islands (Windward and Leeward) made it possible for me to sort the impressions and keep them clear in my own mind; without this experience, I think I should have found his method delightful, but confusing.
