WHILE RIVERS FLOW

This is an historical novel in which both the adjective and the noun are equally honored. It has been written with infinite care and tells two stories alternately: one deals with the expulsion of the Cherokee Nation from its home in the 1830's; the other with the two tragic loves in the life of one James Burke, an Army officer involved in this sad and dishonorable business -- but never to his own discredit. It is an exceptional book in a genre subjected to frequent literary abuse.
