WHAT CAN SHE BE? A COMPUTER SCIENTIST

A hospital needs to order the right amount of a certain drug"" and ""a movie company. . . wants to decide how much longer to show. . . a film about outer space."" These are some of the assignments handled by system designer Linda Wong who works for a computer company, and the Goldreichs follow the movie company problem through terminals, tape, flowchart, and so on, introducing several other company employees on the way. They also show Linda working with some high-school computer students and attending a seminar to advance her own skills. Their console approach doesn't really explain what computer scientists do, nor does it hint at the intrinsic appeal of the work--so this qualifies, if it does, simply as another positive image to extend the series.
