WHAT CAN SHE BE? A SCIENTIST

Though it's hard to explain a geneticist's work at this level, the Goldreichs do their usual proficient job of integrating an introductory impression of the subject with their report on ""Dr. Sharon's' early motivation, high school and college courses, lab work, and university teaching duties. (Oddly, her last name is not mentioned.) Also tied in, to the book's advantage, is the recognition that success as a scientist requires curiosity, creativity, patience, hard work, cooperation, and lots of reading. To convey all this in so unimposing a package, without a slip or a sign of strain, also requires more qualities than might at first be apparent.
