When a reporter is pitched off his New York high-rise terrace, Earl and Owen—two Key West fishermen and fans of his—wonder whether the murder had anything to do with the story he was working on: Japanese involvement in poisonings at the Cleveland plant of Townehouse coffee. Owen searches out the writer's girlfriend, compulsive gambler Geraldine, but they've hardly begun to trust each other when everyone close to the reporter gets knocked off. Now convinced that they're on to something, Owen and Ger dig deeper and eventually come up with ties between several Japanese assassins and Miami businessman Marco DelCampo. Meanwhile, Key West Police Chief Ford Baker is hunting Owen and Ger, and the madman behind the scheme to undermine major America business has an ugly surprise in store for St. Patrick's Cathedral. Super heroics will save the day- -before Owen and Ger sail off into the sunset. A nice look at Key West, and a police chief who uses extralegal persuasion, but the cartoon villains ultimately sink this first adult tale from YA author Gonzalez.
