KIRKUS REVIEW

Ben Buell, 16 and a member of the Pennsylvania Volunteer Militia when General Lee invaded the Gettysburg area during the Civil War, enlists with his two friends in ""Crispin's Bulldogs,"" Battery B of the horse artillery. It's at Gettysburg that Ben finds his favorite horse, Dandy, newly sold to the Army, pulling one of the big guns. Ben eventually takes part in a cavalry charge at Brandy Station, sees the famous Jeb Stuart shot, is cut off from his battery with his friends and has to fight his way back to the Union lines. Excitement is high; action is authentically drawn as are the characters in this thrilling Civil War story. Teen age boys should enjoy it immensely.
