THE ENEMY SEAS

Swept from the deck of their destroyer during a storm, Bob Dunbar and Gary Lunt think themselves two more war casualties when the submarine Grayfin sights them and picks them up. Thus begins a new war experience for the two young men as they are carried along on a secret mission in the midst of Japanese-controlled seas. The author writes straightforwardly, graphically (with sound effects), and with a mastery of war-movie banter that supposedly lightened the lives of our men in war. The old war movie stereotypes are sustained too-Yanks, Aussies, and Japs all fall into the familiar niches. There is even ""the kid"" who dies in a freak accident. But the author pretends no profundity in character or theme; it's just an adventure story, and a good one.
