Again the Canadian newspaper man makes capital of his adventures into strange places, this time the French penal colony, Devil's Island, and the interior of Nigeria, West Africa. Swift moving, exciting reading, crammed with action, anecdotes and startling revelations, this lives up to the pace of his earlier books and combines adventure and exploration for the fireside traveler. Devil's Island emerges with some of the accumulated horrors eliminated, but takes on a different and equally enthralling character of its own. Nigeria releases him unscathed, but more than partially convinced that voodoo and secret cults have a power that cannot be denied, but that the natives are, for the most part, naive, friendly and childlike.
