This first, bright, upstart mystery (more resilient than really resourceful) is mostly about Jake Stone -- and his gift Sally -- after Jake is hired as an anomalous ""consultant"" to check into the will of an aunt belonging to friend Henry whose income is entirely dependent on her, now and in the future. When she dies too suddenly in Rome, Henry seems to have been disinherited and none of this is laid to rest until Jake comes up with much earlier misdemeanors. The repartee is constant and engaging and where it may not promote the story, it works to the characters' sassy advantage.
