THEY ALMOST KILLED HITLER

The story of Fabian Von Schlabrendorff, active worker in Nazi resistance from 1928 on, who climaxes his career with the actual, if unsuccessful attempt to assassinate Hitler in 1944. Knowing in great detail military intrigue, he follows the various plots to rid Germany of Hitler, the failures, despite secret coordination and contacts. The political use of German defeats, the plans to seize power, the detailed work of key conspirators and the high fatality in their ranks, this culminates with Hitler's escape from death on July 20, 1944 and the Gestapo prison for the author. A personal story, (which will be amplified in Dulles' Germany's Underground also to be published by Macmillan) this bares another panel of underground vengeance.
