KIRKUS REVIEW

From the middle west, which is representative of many countries (but there are also recipes from many parts of this country) this is a general cookbook emphasizing dishes which are perhaps more substantial than subtle- but appetitiztng nonetheless. Mrs. Clark's suggestions are on the whole inexpensive; they are also explicit and easy, and cover a wide range from snacks to savories- with a good many recommendations for breads, doughnuts, pies. Mrs. Clark is a cheerful cicerone, perhaps too cheerful at times, and includes helpful housewifely asides for the less experienced.
