Frankly disappointing, from the author of Little Miss Redhead. It is ""just another family story"" -- somewhat mild, somewhat dated. A city family outgrows the city apartment and moves, with all their household goods, to country (or near --country). An absent-minded father and a presiding genius of the back stairs and a long-suffering mother are the adults, but none of the children seem to stand out as flesh and blood personalities, and the incidents are more or less predictable. Even the mystery, hinted at times, fails to materialize.
