As good a collection of stories of the sea and of sea ports of early New England as I have run across, from Plymouth in the days of Miles Standish, and Providence in the days of Roger Williams, on up to Nantucket and New Redford and Gloucester when whaling and cod fishing filled the coffers; and a final story of Edgartown and a ship that was captured during the start of the Civil War. Adventure, with bits of history and occasional characters that went into our nation's building.
