KIRKUS REVIEW

A Victory Garden book, with a text that is just too hard for use as a primer (the predecessor, Raspberry Patch, had -- as I remember it -- a vocabulary that was better keyed to beginning readers). Story of Mary Jane who grows a squash and wine a Blue Ribbon at the school fair. I have liked some of her other books better than this one the caricature type of drawing may have appeal for the Betty Boop fans. But I'm not one of them.
