KIRKUS REVIEW

Straight reporting of the events in China's history of the past ten years. The rise of Chiang Kai-shek to power through his sole aim to integrate the many segments of the country, his marriage to Mei-ling and her influence, his avoidance of conflict with the Japanese in his single-minded effort to eradicate the Reds in the West, his reconciliation of the Left and Right wings and the beginning of the Sino-Japanese war. A balancing of the eventual outcome but no solution offered. A good picture of the factual record, with little interpretation, good journalese.
