Rather a strained story that features some good characters, notably Mrs. Wetherill, who figures she's just too old to die when grandson Teddy comes to visit bringing a suitcase of stolen jewelry and accidentally, the thief--a possible murderer on the run. Eleven-year-old Teddy had spotted the gun and the case on the bus, switched bags for a lark and ended up with more than he'd bargained for. Norman Jackson, the fugitive, decides to hole up on the Wetherill farm but finds himself in a nest of over-eighties, the cranky, cantankerous friends of Mrs. Wetherill. . . . It has its moments but it does show signs of age.
