THE LONELY WITCH by Gunhild Paehr

THE LONELY WITCH

An unpopular witch learns to win friends-- the hygienic way. She has a sociable nature, but no one is willing to approach her until a black cat finally dishes out the sort of advice that even her best friend (if she had one) wouldn't tell her. All spruced up (hair combed, stockings pulled up, down-at-the-heels shoes replaced, teeth gleaming) and with the pejorative connotations of ""witch"" overcome, she manages to start a profitable woodsy restaurant business going. It is rags to riches story that fails to bewitch.
