The life of Augustus Caesar forms the basis for an historical novel which fails, completely, to approach the Claudius standard, and which strikes me as a book that will find small appeal anywhere. From the day of Julius Caesar's death to the death of Augustus the story meanders, but never comes to life. A parade of personalities, none too well done. For scholars who do not demand scholarship; for fiction readers who do not mind a bit of history.
