KIRKUS REVIEW

Good personal adventure of a trip, under borrowed name and passport, through northern Persia, Turkestan, the Oxus Valley and the Pamirs. Sixteen months of wandering, with the police and commercial caravans, avoiding detection, and eventually forced to escape since he had no permission to leave the country. No lack of risks for this young Austrian. Observant comments make it meatier than most books of its genre.
