Jack and Bobo Mercer move to Honeysuckle Lane, in a California suburb, where they find that their new neighbors, a masseur-lay psychologist, an architect, a nurse, a violinist, an insurance salesman, an artist with a record of lewd vagrancy and marijuana, etc., etc. All have a strong ""group identification"". This includes nightly get togethers, as well as an organized, legitimate game of mixed doubles on the theory that you can thus ""enrich"" your experience with your permanent partner. But as Jack pairs off with Dinah, agreement is only academic- and new attempts to increase the experimental kicks on the Lane (where the backyard gardening project is pot) end disastrously... A take-off of bohemia in suburbia, this makes light of many contemporary manifestations and the tongue in the cheek is sharp.
