TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET by H. Allen Smith

TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET

By

Publisher: Doubleday

Volume 1 in the life story of this great man lets you know that ""that's the way it was"" when he was a boy back in state illinois. And how it was all the way when he found the newspaper and started his wanderings which took him to Florida, the midwest, Denver, and other stops that landed him in New York City, where the United Press was a background for the events he writes about. Retuders who have followed his books of and other works will know that H. Allen Smith is no Nice Nellie who pass around subjects and here he is most enlightening on his primitive boyhood and its hazardous play, his exploits as an altar boy and as the center of a school scandal; he is forthright about his courting and marriage; he has story after story about publisher Ponfils; he misses no highlight of riotous happenings in the Big City. If this is lingering it is also very often hilarious recall.
