The author would like to present as untechnically as possible the principles of fuel cells, taking into account the conventional fuel processes, as well as the potentially dangerous nuclear reactors. He feels fuel, cells, if development continues, will offer a far safer alternative. However, his writing is ungainly, defying any reader hoping for easily understood information. For example: ""Fuel cell studies are, as a result of these present and potential advantages, in the midst of an intense period of so-called R and D work. This stands for Research and Development. It is a phase which precedes what we may name here the P and A period--standing for Production and Application.
