Bainbridge is best known in the capacity of Faberge's London agent, skimming the edges of England's titled nobility, representing that modern Cellini, jeweler to the royalty of Europe. But Bainbridge was more than that, and his memoirs make good reading, though not for the man-in-the-street. His career started with the mines in England; Inter he lived with the novelist, Corvo, worked with Dr. Mond, Industrial chemist; and finally with Faberge, as a salesman whose customers were royalty, whose wares are now museum places. There is an unusual side of Russia before the Revolution; there is the story of the hunt for the perfect white lead; there is an odd mixture of philosophy, anecdote, advice and random reminiscence. Sell to the customer who is bored with stereotyped memoirs, who wants something unique.
