THE APPREHENSIVE DOG

Oblique, petulant, brilliant Reggie Fortune plays games with a clever killer, as he does his coaching from the sidelines on a case that doesn't seem to get anywhere. Deaths from natural causes, suicide, or what-have-you, as the Ambury family headed for extinction. One last go at poisoning and a shooting and Fortune favors all with his solution. A good one -- but for connoisseurs only.
