THE EFFECTIVE STUDENT by H. Chandler Elliott

THE EFFECTIVE STUDENT

Pub Date: Sept. 28th, 1966

A general manual outlining effective study habits which will be helpful for all students, but really geared for the anxiety-ridden late high school or college student facing a chilling future of courses and exams. There is a mention now and then about the ""fun"" of learning, but the author's orientation seems solidly set in the bleak contemporary classroom battle ground, and he plans for the student a sensible and interesting campaign. Discipline and planning are the key words, with a heavy emphasis on ""studying actively."" The author offers specifics--study actively each subject for twenty-(count'em twenty) minutes, actively finding patterns (a great deal of help here) correlating, asking oneself ""How will I remember?"" rather than vainly insisting ""I will remember!"" Immediate, concentrated, instant review is important. Exam aid is thorough, extensive, treating physical and psychological preparation as well as intellectual. Plenty of chapter sum-ups to hammer home the points. In spite of a certain textbook pallor, one of the best study manuals around.
