CAMPANULAS AND BELLFLOWERS IN CULTIVATION

A popular approach based on the comprehensive earlier book -- Campanulas -- is designed for the general gardener. The material is divided chiefly into campanula in the border, in the rock garden, in the wild garden, under cover -- and while there is some overlapping, the various species particularly appropriate to these sites are discussed with some detail. Method of propagation, preferred soil conditions and exposure, perpetuation (many of them are biennial in habit), cultivation -- these factors are integral to the successive plants. A final chapter is devoted to related genera. Perhaps campanulas and bellflowers are less widely used in this country than in England, and to some extent allowance must be made for variations in climate, temperature, length of season, but in the main, this is pertinent to both sides of the Atlantic.
