FOOTBALL FLASH

The Illustrious Hunters had made their mark on the football fields throughout the country. Now that Flash Hunter's father was coach at Western State College, Kansas, and Flash assumed he too would have to try out for the sport on his Junior High team. Mr. Hunter's assurance that this was not obligatory brought little solace to Flash who sensed the importance of the whole matter among members of his family. The boy's tendency to avoid hard work and practice, and his dangerous lack of concentration at crucial moments land him on the bench several times and in bandages on other occasions. It is only when he learns to involve himself fully in any activity, and to hear the brunt of injury does he reap the rewards of effort. Despite his underlying motive to please Dad, Flash learns the valuable ratio between effort and gain, a lesson which can apply to or transcend the athletic medium. Some football passages appear, but the emphasis is on the inner Flash.
